Walmart Inc. is headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas. Originally, Walmart was a discount store –it was aimed at providing customers with the lowest possible prices. As the network grew, new supercenters appeared, providing the opportunity to purchase all kinds of goods — from food products to various appliances and repair tools. In just five years, by 1967, there were already more than 20 Walmarts in the United States, and sales reached $12 million.
An important milestone in the company's development was in 1983. To respond to the emergence of smaller merchants, Walmart opened Sam’s Club, a network of wholesale warehouses. For the first time in the history of American business, the company managed to increase sales to $1 billion in less than 20 years.
The company has several branches. The Walmart US segment in the USA is a merchandiser operating under the Walmart and Walmart Neighborhood Market brands, as well as e-commerce brands. There is also Walmart International, which includes both retail and wholesale. The Sam's Club segment is a warehouse club for members only.
The company continues to actively grow, for example, in 2022 Walmart Health expands to Florida with 5 more health centers. Constant innovation, expansion, and rapid development of e-commerce and delivery systems allow the company to follow industrial changes and keep up with companies like Amazon and Target. Walmart is included in the top-20 most valuable companies by market cap in the world.

In July 1962, Sam Walton opened the first Walmart store. Seven years later, the company was officially registered as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

Although the company pays dividends and their growth over the years is solid, WMT dividend yield is lower than the US Consumer Defensive industry and the US market average.

Despite the fact that Walmart had been contributing to a better life of people around the world providing job opportunities, offering cheaper products to save people money so they can have a better life, contributing millions of dollars for disaster relief, it was accused of racial and gender discrimination, employee surveillance, foreign product sourcing, anti-competitive practices, poor supervision of foreign product suppliers, and environmental issues.
